Arthurdale Heritage Cookbook Has Unique Recipe Collection

Prepare Your Home for Winter! Historic Windows Weatherization Workshop

Arthurdale Heritage, Inc. is pleased to offer a historic windows weatherization demonstration project at the E-15 Homestead, part of the New Deal Homestead Museum in historic Arthurdale.

Preservation historian, Lynn Stasick, will begin the workshop with a window restoration PowerPoint presentation on the National Park Services’ best practices describing Class I, II, and III methods of historic windows restoration. This will be followed by a historic windows steam chest demonstration showing the basic steps to rehab a historic wooden window. A hands-on weatherization demonstration by window preservation expert Phil Davis of Allegheny Restoration will follow.

The workshop will be held on September 30, 2011 from 11:00 am to 3:30 pm. The workshop fee is $35; lunch is included. Call 304.864.3959 or email ahi@arthurdaleheritage.org to register. Please pre-register by September 26.

WV Genealogy Class

Learn how to research your family’s roots Tuesday, September 27 at 6:30pm in Center Hall at Arthurdale Heritage. Christy Venham, who teaches genealogy at WVU and works at the WV & Regional History Collection, will share her broad range of knowledge in this introductory class.

AHI members pay $15 and others $18. Register by calling 304 864-3959, emailing ahi@arthurdaleheritage.org, or coming by the office during business hours.

Smithsonian Museum Day Offers Free Admission

In conjunction with the Smithsonian’s Seventh Annual Museum Day on September 24, tours of Arthurdale Heritage’s homestead community museum along Rt. 92 in Preston County will be free from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The tour includes a restored home, exhibits on the New Deal project, administration building, forge, service station, and community building. Tour tickets are available at www.smithsonianmag.com/museumday/ and must be presented for the free admission. On Sunday, the museum will be open noon to 4 p.m., and admission will be charged for tours. The volunteer-run Craft Shop will also be open at the same times.
