lavender blossoms

AND we've been waiting all summer but it's finally here: BUTTERNUT SQUASH BREAD: A healthy yeast bread, with very little sugar and butter, this bread is great for slicing and toasting with honey. It is a good source of fibre, vitamin C, manganese, magnesium, and potassium. It is also an excellent source of vitamin A.

CAROL'S FAVORITE: Butternut Squash French Toast!

French toast is a wonderful way to use your butternut squash bread. Whisk an egg into a cup of buttermilk (or regular milk), a teaspoon vanilla and a sprinkle of cinnamon. Dip the bread slices in the mixture and saute the bread slices in butter until brown. Dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with maple syrup.

Tathams Farms:

New Day Bakery:

Rustic Italian, always a favorite! This is our house "white" bread - soft, moist, and enriched with olive oil. A classic Italian hearth bread that slices well for sandwiches, garlic bread, toast, you name it.

Sourdough! We make a French-style sourdough, milder then the sharply sour San Francisco-style, using a wild-yeast starter called a levain. It contains no commercial yeast and is leavened entirely with our levain.

Onion Rye! A hearty old-world-style rye bread made chewy with coarsely-ground whole rye flour, flavored with caraway seeds and dried onion.

Sevengrain! Chewy, hearty, and wholesome, made with white, wheat, and rye flours plus flax seeds, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and millet. A great everyday sandwich bread.

Fire Fly farms:

Goat cheese upon request. FireFly Farms is dedicated to the art of cheesemaking. FireFly Farms' artisanal cheeses are made according to time-honored tradition; each piece is produced and ripened with handmade care. Place your orders at the AHI table.

Volunteers from the United Way of Monongalia and Preston Counties rolled up their sleeves to help Arthurdale Heritage (AHI). It was all part of the United Way’s Day of Caring. Six United Way volunteers from WesBanco’s Kingwood branch and Allegheny Energy’s Albright Power Station teamed up with AHI volunteers to clean and organize storage facilities at its Center Hall Complex.

“Our storage areas in the historic service station garage bays had not been thoroughly organized or cleaned for several years. It’s a project that wasn’t vital to our day-to-day operations, but still sorely needed. With the help of the United Way, we were able to complete a project in two hours that would have probably taken us two days,” said Jeanne Goodman, AHI Executive Director.

Goodman said the workers uncovered things like old, bedding and fixtures, office equipment, outdated foodservice products, and other items. AHI volunteers Randy Weaver and Roger Day helped guide the United Way workers to ensure only valueless items were disposed of. AHI volunteer Jeff Zinn provided a trailer and hauled away the trash.

“We would like to thank the United Way and the volunteers for coming out and working on such a hot, humid day. I also appreciate their employers, WesBanco and Allegheny Energy for allowing people time off to volunteer for United Way’s Day of Caring. We appreciate their time and commitment to Arthurdale Heritage,” Goodman said.

Arthurdale Heritage, Inc. is holding two public meetings to ask local residents and entrepreneurs to help plan future uses for the original Arthurdale Schools which are currently empty. The meetings will be held in our Center Hall.

The first gathering is Friday July 23 at 6pm and the second one is Saturday July 24 at 2pm. Light refreshments will be available.

“We are considering three possible areas of expansion – community services, arts & entertainment, and business development” said Jeanne Goodman, executive director. “We are inviting the local community to meet with us, discuss the options, and give us their opinions on using the restored buildings.”

For those who cannot come to one of the meetings, the survey link is http://www.arthurdaleheritage.org/focus. This Arthurdale Revitalization project is funded by a FOCUS WV Brownfields grant which is distributed through West Virginia University.
