Smithsonian Museum Day Offers Free Admission
In conjunction with the Smithsonian’s Seventh Annual Museum Day on September 24, tours of Arthurdale Heritage’s homestead community museum along Rt. 92 in Preston County will be free from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The tour includes a restored home, exhibits on the New Deal project, administration building, forge, service station, and community building. Tour tickets are available at www.smithsonianmag.com/museumday/ and must be presented for the free admission. On Sunday, the museum will be open noon to 4 p.m., and admission will be charged for tours. The volunteer-run Craft Shop will also be open at the same times.

Ice Cream Social: Join us for an afternoon of Family Fun, August 27!

Ice Cream Eating Contest
Bring the kids and join in the fun at the annual Arthurdale Ice Cream Social and Community Fun Day, Saturday, Aug. 27. from 4-7 p.m.
Some of the highlights of the event*:
- Community “anything on wheels” parade where participants decorate anything on wheels and join in the procession from M Road to the Center Hall. Register here: Anything on Wheels Parade
- Great food and ice cream (of course!)
- Pie contest! Participants can enter their homemade pie in the contest and we’ll serve up samples for judges to vote on. (email ahi@arthurdaleheritage.org to enter your pie!)
- Contests such as ice cream eating contest, bubble gum blowing contest, cake walk.
- Games like horseshoes, musical chairs, dime toss, bean bag toss, fish pond, etc.

Celebrate Preston County History Day, August 21
Explore the history at your back door. Preston County History Day will be celebrated on Sunday, August 21 at numerous historical sites around the county. The variety of historic interests provides an educational family outing in scenic surroundings.
In addition to Arthurdale Heritage’s five-building museum (including a restored homestead) representing the New Deal’s first subsistence homestead project (open 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. on Saturdays, noon – 4:00 p.m. on Sundays all summer), other sites open for tours on Preston County History Day are located in Kingwood, Rowlesburg, Terra Alta and Tunnelton.
