Volunteers of the Year

Volunteerism is very important to the success of our organization. We recognize the efforts of outstanding volunteers on a monthly basis. Arthurdale Heritage, Inc.'s Executive Committee of the Board of Directors chooses the Volunteer of the Month based upon either exceptional volunteerism during the month or exceptional continued volunteerism over a period of time.

The Volunteer of the Year Award is bestowed on one of the Volunteers of the Month and is decided by a vote of the Board of Directors prior to the Annual Membership Dinner in October.
Membership in Arthurdale Heritage is not required for you to volunteer your time or to be selected as a Volunteer of the Month.

At the Annual Membership dinner held Sunday, October 28, 2001, all the past fiscal year Volunteers of the Month were honored and a Volunteer of the Year was chosen from among the monthly winners. This year that honored volunteer was Jeff Zinn, of Arthurdale. Jeff is pictured receiving his award from AHI President, Billie Lovett.

Jeff was chosen as a volunteer of the month because of his continued effort toward all our maintenance projects and in particular, the installation of the gas pumps and Esso sign at our Service Station last July. Jeff gets his construction and Mr. Fix-it expertise from working for his father’s construction company, Gerald Zinn & Sons, Inc., since his graduation from West Preston High School in 1979.

Jeff is a double homesteader descendant. His paternal grandparents were Luther Zinn and Marie Turner Zinn of U-Road. His maternal grandparents were Cameron Radabaugh and Opal Harned Radabaugh of BB-Road. Both sets of grandparents moved to Arthurdale in 1935. His parents are Gerald Zinn and Maxine Radabaugh Zinn. He has three siblings, Ronald, Ray, and Beverly.

Jeff married Cathy Jo Greathouse of Arthurdale and they have two daughters. Cathy and their daughters, Amelia, a senior at Preston High School in Kingwood, and Stacy, an 8th grader at West Preston Middle School in Masontown, are also repeat volunteers for many of AHI’s functions. Congratulations, Jeff.

“Why was I chosen? There’s lots of people in the community who do more than I.” These were the modest words of Dave Hall after being selected.

Dave and his wife Marilee moved to their Y-1 home in 1978. Dave has been actively involved with AHI since it was formed. Dave retired after 30 1/2 years from Consolidation Coal Company in 1999. Since then he has been able to volunteer more of his time. He now serves on the Maintenance committee. He has helped with the Valley District Fair for 14 years. Dave is quite a chef as he demonstrated his talent for us by cooking many a breakfast last spring. He helps at the monthly square dances and has been seen “do-si-doin” with the rest. Dave is willing to drop everything in a minute’s notice and help when asked.

Dave lived at P-1 as a youngster and attended Arthurdale Elementary and is a Valley High School graduate. He is a Vietnam War veteran, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Eagles, and the Arthurdale Tirekickers. He enjoys fishing, hunting, and four-wheeling.
