Learn more about history in your backyard with Preston County History Days. Third Sundays from July-October:  July 20, August 17, September 21 and October 19.  Times and locations subject to change so check back for updates!

Times and locations are:

• Arthurdale Heritage, a five-building complex representing the New Deal’s first subsistence homestead project, on Rt. 92
  • Noon-4:00pm
  •  Open all dates
• Kingwood’s James McGrew House, 1841 home built by the prominent businessman involved in the formation of West Virginia, on Rt. 7
  • 1:00-3:00pm
  • Open all dates
• Szilagyi Center in Rowlesburg featuring the World War II Museum, Preston County Sports Museum, and B&O bridges exhibit, 4-H Museum, Emporium and café on Rt. 72
  • 1:00 – 5:00pm
  • Open all dates
• Terra Alta History House, with 3 floors of Preston County history exhibits, photos and genealogy records, 109 East Washington Street
  • 1:30 – 4:30pm
  • Open through September only
• Tunnelton Train Depot Museum, the 1913 brick train station once operated by the B&O Railroad, on Boswell Street (from Rt. 26 center of town go through underpass and the depot is on the left)

• Westbrook’s Esso shows the full-service gas station of yesteryear and antique truck on display 101 West High Street (corner of Price and W. High Streets).

• Old Hemlock in Brandonville, country home of renowned outdoors author George Bird Evans.  A seven-room stone/log house constructed in 1782.   17098 Brandonville Pike.
